About Remapping

What is "remapping"?

ECU Remapping is carried out by uploading a customised, optimised “map” best suited to your car and performance requirements. It changes the ECU’s parameters thereby changing the characteristics of the engine and is usually perfectly matched to your engine, fuel choice, driving style and car condition rather than the standard manufacturer’s best guess setup. By default, the ECU is configured by the manufacture to allow the engine to provide all round good performance regardless of the quality of servicing, fuel grade and even the climate.

What changes will I notice in my car after ECU Remapping?

ECU remapping will give you a smoother, more responsive engine, sharper acceleration and increased fuel efficiency. It can help give you better fuel economy and cure lower peak torque. It can also give increased acceleration or higher top end power.

Is this a safe modification to make?

Absolutely, when its done professionally. ECU remapping is a positive improvement to the engine’s performance.

Can anything go wrong?

We carry out a full safety check on all vehicles to ensure that your engine is in good condition and can stand the modifications, before any modifications are made. As a safeguard, we save the original ECU settings so that this could be restored to your ECU.

I don't drive a sports or high performance car - will I benefit from ECU-Remapping?

You don’t have to have a sports car to benefit from the advantages that ECU remapping brings. We remap many “normal” cars to achieve better overall performance. Read our customer feedback section.

Do I need to have anything else changed in my car to support the new changes?

ECU remapping affects just the ECU. Nothing else in the car has to be modified.

How long will you need the car for?

We will require your car typically for about 1 to 2 hours and can be done at one of our many national dealers.

If you require specialised custom remapping, then we will require your car for longer as custom remapping is usually done on a rolling road; we will advise you accordingly at the time of booking the car in.

Who is a typical remapping customer?

What to expect from Remapping

How much horsepower increase can I expect?

It is difficult to say exactly as it depends on a number of factors but remapping could give you an increase of 10% to 30% BHP. We recommend that you talk to one of our remapping specialists to find out more about what you can expect from your car and never take any published figure as fact.

 

 

Will I feel an increase in torque?

Yes. All the modifications are designed to increase torque.

Will I get an improved top speed?

Yes. And, we can remove the manufacturer’s top speed limiters; Or in some cases, put a speed limiter in.

Does remapping increase fuel efficiency?

Yes it does and we have proven this with the use of fuel flow meters. But this is dependent on the age of the engine and the way the vehicle is driven before and after remapping.

Do I need to tell my insurance company?

You should inform your insurance company about any modifications that you make to your car.

Can anyone detect that modifications have been made to the ECU?

It is extremely difficult for anyone to tell that modifications have been made to the ECU.

What is Brake Horse Power (BHP)?

Brake horsepower (bhp) is the measure of an engine’s horsepower before the loss in power caused by the gearbox, alternator, differential, water pump, and other auxiliary components such as power steering pump, muffled exhaust system, etc. Brake refers to a device which was used to load an engine and hold it at a desired RPM.

What is Torque?

Torque, moment or moment of force, is the tendency of a force to rotate an object about an axis, fulcrum, or pivot. Just as a force is a push or a pull, a torque can be thought of as a twist to an object. Mathematically, torque is defined as the cross product of the lever-arm distance and force, which tends to produce rotation.

How will an increase in BHP and torque help me?

By increasing the power, your engine will be optimised and will use less fuel for the same speed.
